I finally made it to the Dîner en Blanc, after being on the waiting list in Paris for almost two years. The ease with which I was able to get on the Johannesburg waiting list and proceed to the next stage was a far cry from the lengthy communications of ‘sorry not this year’ I had become used to.
I was filling out the feedback survey and remembered I had not posted about the event. Overall, the organisation could have been better. After we’d met at the pre-arranged meeting point, we boarded buses which would take us to the ‘secret’ venue. Once there, unfortunately it became clear that the organisers had not done a dry run of where the venue was, and the bus drivers had not been properly briefed about their destination . We did finally find the venue but admittedly, that did not leave us feeling too confident about how the rest of the evening would unfold.
Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and what could have been a lovely evening, was ruined by freezing cold weather, which ended with the dinner being moved indoors – this though, after a lot of people had already left. Joburgers came to the party though, in their white garb and picnic baskets, and for the few hours that the weather was still fairly warm, we’d had a pleasant time.
