Nice on 4th in Parkhurst has become quite an institution. Their menu still remains fairly unchanged from the more than ten years ago when it first opened. You can still order the firm favourite for regulars – their egg baskets in toast; mounds of scrambled eggs, topped with bacon or salmon and served in slices of bread moulded into baskets. Order it with a side of fried halloumi if you’re courting heart disease. It is delightful. If both sweet and savoury suit your mood, then on order can be the half-and-half – which is the half portion of their egg basket and another half of their flapjacks – topped with bacon and mascarpone cheese and drizzled with maple syrup. No, not for those watching their carb intakes or minding their calories. This is for those weekend brunches when pretty much everything goes.
Their cappuccino’s, melon juice – when in season – and variety of teas and cakes also make for a pause for coffee without the heavier fare. They now also have a lunch menu that includes salads and homemade pies. Nice is still one of my favourite places to eat, even after all these years.
